There are approximately 2000 long life enterprises in Kyoto. 90% of them are family businesses. This Long Life Family Business Research Center investigates the relationship between long life family businesses and regional community based on research accumulation in Ryukoku University about long life enterprises. Our research focuses that of in Kyoto and compares with other region in Japan, as well as the comparison with European countries or China.
We try to investigate the entrepreneurial dynamism from the view point of regional community or regional network. Through this kind of investigation, we try to make the factors of thei long life clear.
We have studied long life enterprises in Kyoto for about ten years. We analyzed business succession and innovation in those long life enterprises. We investigated not only long life enterprises in Kyoto but also those in Tokyo, Kanazawa and Florence. Professor Tsujita studied Wenzhou Chinese immigrant entrepreneurs in Europe, and analyzed the factors of their economic success from view point of community capital and network.
Our hypothesis is that long life family businesses which continue their business in some specific region is embedded in the region, and trust relationship or network structure decide their longevity.
